Wait, summer is not over yet! Want to go boating on beautiful Lake Oconee? It's easy, even if you don't own a boat. Harbor Club Boathouse Marina, in partnership with Young Harris Water Sports, has everything you need for a spectacular day on the lake. Lake Oconee boat rentals are in exceptionally high demand during the summer months, so here's what to do (and what to expect) when renting a boat at Harbor Club’s Boathouse Marina.
There are two types of boats to choose from. One is a premium ski boat, which safely seats eight people. The other is a deluxe pontoon boat, which has a 12-person seating capacity. Each can tow for water sports, like tubing and water skiing.
The ski boat is a Sea Ray 21 SPX which is perfect for water sports enthusiasts. It's a 21-foot vessel, and it has a powerful 250-horsepower Mercury motor. It's speedy, yet smooth and the wake tower tows most water sports with ease and comfort.
The pontoon boat is a Crest Tritoon, and it's excellent for larger groups of people. It's a 24-foot watercraft, and a 150-horsepower Mercury outboard powers it. Even though it's known for its stability, it still has plenty of power for all your water sports needs.
To ensure that you get your boat of choice, it's a good idea to reserve it ahead of time online with a credit card. The boats are available to rent for a minimum of two hours, but most people rent for more than that. Time flies when you're having fun! Typical time slots run as follows:
2 hour -- 9am - 11am, 11:30am - 1:30pm, 2pm - 4pm
4 hour -- 9am - 1pm, 1:30pm - 5:30pm
8 hour -- 9am - 5pm, 9:30am - 5:30pm
24 hour -- 9am - 9am, 5pm - 5pm
Multi-day rentals are available.
Once you've reserved your boat online, you'll arrive at Harbor Club Marina at your specified day and time to pick up your rental. Before heading out on the water, you'll be required to watch an important boating safety video. Once you've completed that, you'll be given a personal boat orientation. Then, at the time of checkout, you'll sign a form verifying that you've watched the video and completed the orientation. We'll then issue you a Georgia DNR vessel rental certification card. It's essentially your temporary boating license, and it's valid for six months. Before heading out on your lake adventure, you may want to opt to sign a damage waiver. This is insurance that helps cover you in the case of any accidents. Note that none of this pre-boating process is hard -- it's all done in the name of safety and to make sure you have a fun time on the water.
The rental boats already come equipped with life jackets, but you may want to rent other equipment, like tubes, water skis, and wakeboards. Also, be sure to stock up on snacks, drinks, and other goodies to enjoy out on the water. Our convenience store at the marina has almost everything you would need, including sunscreen, nautical supplies, and fishing gear. Tasty meals and cold beverages are available at The Boathouse Restaurant as well. It's open on Friday through Sunday for lunch and dinner during the summer months.
