It’s not unusual to find our award-winning golf course somewhat quiet during the winter months, but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t been busy making it the absolute best it can be. In addition to daily maintenance, we have several other more significant projects in the works — all to update and make your golf experience at Harbor Club better than ever. Here’s the scoop:

Enhance air flow

We removed almost 60 trees on holes 1, 3, 9, 11, 14, and 15. Some of these trees were already dead or had compromised health. We all know how important air flow is in golf, so you’ll be happy to find it much improved. You’ll notice that the apparent changes at holes 1, 3, 9, and 11.

Improve grass quality

You’ll find new sod installed at holes 9 and 11 where some of the tree removal had left a void. With so many trees removed, the grass quality will be much better throughout the course. There will be fewer tree roots for it to contend with, and the formerly shady areas will have more sunlight, making it healthier and stronger.

Create uniformity

A consistent, well-maintained landscape makes for a calming yet beautiful environment to play. Ornamental grasses are an excellent way to augment and enhance a golf course to express uniformity. So, you’ll now find these attractive grass features added or changed at holes 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, the driving range, and the putting green.

Add color

In addition to adding the ornamental grasses, we’re adding some pops of color to the course too. You’ll find pretty annual flower plantings near the putting green and behind the 9 green. We plan to change these out periodically to keep the flowers fresh and aesthetically pleasing.

Improve drainage

To ensure proper drainage, we’ve recently completed inspecting all putting green drain lines and outfalls. Leveling out the access points that surround the greens is a priority, as is improving the drainage with the fairway bunker on hole 5. Also, we plan to have a contractor make upgrades to the galvanized pipe and catch basin between holes 1 and 9.

Enhance the hardscape

The bridges on holes 7 and 18 have been resurfaced by our in-house builder to ensure appealing yet safe passage. Patriot Builders utilized high-quality “double treated” boards which will be painted soon when the air is drier. We have the bridges on holes 4 and 17 next in the queue for improvements. Also, we plan to upgrade the driving range bag stands this spring. They will not only be more aesthetically pleasing, but they are designed to effectively help with your performance as you work on your game.

There’s undoubtedly a lot of work going on, but we know that all of these endeavors and constant improvements are for you. We want to ensure that all who play golf at Harbor Club have a fantastic experience. So come check out all the great things we’ve done. Warmer weather is coming — book your tee time today.
