Walk to Your Health at Harbor Club
Walking is such an underrated form of exercise. It’s so simple to do, yet many of us don’t take the time to go for a simple stroll. Just 30 minutes a day is all you need to gain some significant mental and physical benefits. It can relieve anxiety, boost your mood, and even help you drop a few pounds. What’s great is that Harbor Club makes it easier than ever, with lots of beautiful places and easily accessible amenities to get in those steps.
So grab your tennis shoes and give some of these a try:
Hiking Trail
The Grove provides multiple opportunities to walk, one of which is our serene hiking trail. It’s a mile long, manicured and mulched hiking trail that winds through a wooded area of Harbor Club. If you’ve got a dog, this is an excellent place for you both to get in a pleasant walk. Better yet, one of the trail entrances is next to our dog park, so you and Fido can easily enjoy that space with other friendly pups before or after your hike.
Fit-Trail®
Also located at The Grove campus is our 10-station Fit-Trail®. This is a separate trail from the hiking trail, and it gives you the opportunity to not only walk but also do stretching and strength-training. For example, station 1 is calf stretches; station 4 is sit-ups and leg raises; station 7 is a balance walk, and station 9 is hamstring pulls. Each station describes how to do the exercise correctly, and it also offers a fitness index of recommended reps for both beginning and advanced users.
Golf course
Not too long ago one of our members, Ricky Knowles, was highlighted in a Golf Georgia article titled, “Why They Walk.” The piece was about walking 18 holes as opposed to riding a cart on the course. There were some compelling arguments for walking that go beyond the fitness aspect. These included such things as boosting a player’s competitive concentration as well as enjoying a peaceful connection with nature.
1/4-Mile Track
Our 1/4-mile track isn’t just for runners. It’s an ideal place to walk with measured ease. It’s the perfect place to listen to your favorite tunes or even a thought-provoking podcast while you quickly rack up laps. Don’t crank up the volume too high though so you’re aware of other runners and walkers around you. Also, if you’re walking, stick to the outer lanes so that the inside lanes are clear for those that are faster. If you walk at the track enough, you’ll likely soon find yourself working up to jogging and then running with the best of them!
If it’s raining, don’t despair. We have plenty of treadmills at our Fitness Center, which make it easy to get your daily walk in too. And if it’s nice outside, you can always step out the front door and amble around our safe, gated community.
We’d be happy to give you a tour to show you all of the great places you can walk (and more) in our community. There’s so much to see; we’ll have to chauffeur you around first! Give us a call and let’s start planning your visit today.
