The game of golf is more popular than ever. Our award-winning course happily welcomes the many players indulging in our championship course – several of which are younger golfers. In fact, 2020 saw the biggest gain in youth golfers participating in the game since Tiger’s 1997 Masters win. That momentum continues to this day. So, what’s the draw?
We recently chatted with head golf pro Keith Kelly to get his thoughts on why golf is perfect for our youth. Here’s what we learned:
- Excellent exercise
Golf offers a terrific way to stay fit, increase endurance, and lose a few pounds. It gets the blood pumping because of all the walking, bending, reaching, stretching, and swinging of a club. Those types of exercises improve both strength and balance. Better yet, golf is an excellent exercise in patience too.
- Fresh air and beauty abound
Playing golf is a great way to get clean, fresh air and sunshine — a nice dose of vitamin D. Plus, it’s a peaceful sport. Our course has especially gorgeous vistas and views. Here, the quiet solitude and sounds of nature offer a calming sense of tranquility.
- Stress reducer plus other health benefits
Speaking of calm, golf is a sport that does a great job of reducing stress, among other remarkable health benefits. Playing requires focus on the game and releases endorphins that help combat anxiety and depression. What’s more, playing golf can improve a player’s posture. Better posture boosts confidence and self-esteem – both significant assets for our youth today.
- Cultivates and grows friendships
Golf is an excellent way to make new friends, especially through our Junior Golf Camp program. Enjoying a round, hitting a bucket of balls, and practicing putts are all fantastic ways for friends to spend quality time together. There’s plenty of time to chat between shots and tons of fun playing and practicing together.
- Almost anyone can play
Golf is an inclusive game. It’s available to almost anyone, regardless of age, gender, or size. Some kids may feel left out of certain athletics, like contact sports and other traditional team events. That’s not the case with golf. Plus, it’s a sport that can be enjoyed now and for decades to come.
- Strengthens family bonds
Considering that most anyone can play, golf is a game where youth can enjoy a round with multiple family members. Whether it be sisters, brothers, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, cousins – it doesn’t matter. The entire family can join in the fun.
