Georgia’s Lake Country is a wonderful place to live. It’s tranquil, yet there’s always something fun to do here on beautiful Lake Oconee. If you’re wondering about activities to enjoy at the lake, here are nine to consider:
The Boathouse Marina and Restaurant
Every Harbor Club homeowner and member gains easy access to Lake Oconee through the Boathouse amenity. It offers a full-service marina and seasonal restaurant right on the lake. There are several options for boat storage, including dry stack. Our knowledgeable marina manager, Jerry Cash, and his team are readily available to help get your boat safely on the lake in no time.
And since our community is located directly on Lake Oconee, there are so many other fun activities for families to enjoy that come with boating – things like tubing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and wake surfing. Of course, there are others to enjoy too, like jet skiing or quieter, more calming water sports, like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, rowing, and canoeing.
Everyone enjoys our free, live music events during the summer and early fall at The Boathouse. Dine on some delicious food and drinks at the restaurant, hang out and chat with friends by the fire pit, dance on the lawn, or simply chill out on your boat — all while being entertained by talented singers and musicians. These concerts are great fun for everyone in the family, so don’t miss out – please like our page on Facebook to see our posted events for all the details.
There are many terrific photo opportunities when you live on or near Lake Oconee. You’ll find beauty everywhere. Whether you shoot with a sophisticated DSLR or take a simple snap with your smartphone, you’ll capture beautiful blooms, wildlife, pretty reflections, waterfowl, lake life adventures, not to mention admirable “like-worthy” selfies.
After a long day of work, there’s nothing quite like enjoying the peace and serenity of a beautiful lake view to help you relax. Studies show that water views or simply being around water helps provide a unique way to unwind. The tranquility of the lake also offers an exceptional place for reading, writing, reflecting, or simply meditating.
Play lakefront golf
Our lakefront golf course is masterfully located alongside Lake Oconee, making a game at Harbor Club as gratifying as it is engaging. Our course touches the shoreline of Lake Oconee on six different holes. It also skirts four creeks and offers several renowned Weiskopf-Morrish Risk Reward holes. To get an idea of what it’s like, see a virtual view of our course …or better yet, book a tee time to experience some of the best in lakefront golf for yourself.
Sunrises and sunsets
There’s nothing quite like a sunrise or sunset at Lake Oconee. Here, the colors and hues are more vibrant — there are redder reds, pinker pinks, and bluer blues. Add in a few puffy clouds and some pretty pines, and you’ve got a gorgeous, naturally framed, postcard-perfect snapshot — one that changes daily.
Lake Oconee is known for its plentiful largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. What’s more, our Harbor Club community has several large ponds stocked with fish. So, no matter whether you drop a line in the lake or a pond, you’re bound to go home with a prize fish – or at the very least, some great tales to tell.
When it comes to a refreshing dip, you’ve got options at Harbor Club. First, of course, you can jump in Lake Oconee’s cool water. However, if you’re more of a pool person, we’ve got a crystal clear, junior Olympic-sized option for you. But for the most fun on the lake, you must visit The Sandbar or Jumping Rock. Both are hidden gems on Lake Oconee that are the perfect swimming spots for creating fun memories.
Awarded Best Lake Community
We’re still proud of being awarded “Best Lake Community of the Year” by Real Estate Scorecard. They determine the “best of the best” communities based on genuine happiness and the highest quality of life experienced at each. For the “Best Lake Community” category, they also looked closely at water quality and lake level fluctuations, stating, “Lake Oconee is warm, it’s clean, and the annual lake levels vary less than two feet.” Also, unlike other communities on Lake Oconee, almost 90% of our residents live at Harbor Club year-round. Fun-loving friends abound at Harbor Club.
Whichever endeavors you choose, we hope you enjoy your time on Lake Oconee. And if you’re interested in making “lake life” a permanent part of your life, make plans to visit us. We’d be happy to show you around our award-winning Southern Living-Inspired Community. Here, you and your family can enjoy the best resort-style living, not just for a week but all year round. We look forward to seeing you soon.
