Member Spotlight: Steve & Linda Kernan

At Harbor Club, our community is defined by the people who bring it to life. From friendly neighbors and shared experiences to the connections formed on the golf course, at The Clubhouse, and throughout the neighborhood, it’s the members and residents who make Harbor Club feel like home. Through our Member Spotlight, we’re proud to share the voices and stories of members who make Harbor Club such a special place to live.

This month, we’re excited to feature Steve and Linda Kernan, who shared their Harbor Club experience in their own words:

“We moved to Harbor Club at the end of July in 2025 from Lexington, South Carolina. Harbor Club seemed to be more of a community than a resort, and everyone was so nice. We felt Harbor Club could truly feel like home. Harbor Club offers something for everyone. There’s always something going on to get involved in. We love having a great golf course to play, the people have been very welcoming, but best of all is it puts us closer to our children and grands!”

Steve and Linda’s words perfectly capture what so many members experience at Harbor Club: a welcoming atmosphere, plenty of opportunities to get involved, and a place that truly feels like home. We’re so grateful to have them as part of the Harbor Club family. If you see them around the community, be sure to say hello.

Tacky Sweaters and Holiday Cheer at Harbor Club on Lake Oconee

Holiday spirit was on full display at Harbor Club during our Tacky Sweater Party, held on Saturday, December 20. Members came together for a festive evening filled with laughter, music, and plenty of unforgettable sweaters.

From bold patterns and blinking lights to over-the-top holiday flair, the creativity did not disappoint. Guests embraced the fun, showing off their tackiest attire while enjoying a lively night on the dance floor and celebrating the season with fellow members.

The evening featured delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres, festive drink specials, and a cash bar, giving everyone plenty of reasons to mix, mingle, and toast to the holidays. Most of all, the night was about connection, spending time with friends, meeting new faces, and sharing in the joy that makes the Harbor Club community so special.

Holiday Spirit Shines Bright at Harbor Club on Lake Oconee

The holiday season truly shone at Harbor Club with our Deck the Halls Christmas Decorating Contest. Residents were invited to showcase their festive spirit by decorating their homes, docks, and outdoor spaces, and the response was nothing short of magical.

From cozy indoor decor and glowing Christmas trees to beautifully lit exteriors and eye-catching displays, the creativity throughout the community was inspiring. Every entry, big or small, classic or whimsical, helped make Harbor Club sparkle brighter than ever this season.

Residents competed in three festive categories:

  • Best Indoor Decor
  • Best Outdoor Decor
  • Best Overall Decor

Winners in each category received a gift certificate to The Clubhouse at Harbor Club and were recognized on social media and in the weekly Harbor Club newsletter.

After much admiration (and some very tough decisions), we were thrilled to announce our winners on December 22:

Best Outdoor Decor: Ryan Gibadlo
Inspired by his family’s love of the holidays, Ryan shared that when they moved to Harbor Club in 2019, not many homes decorated for Christmas. With encouragement from his five-year-old at the time, their “big decorations” were meant to inspire neighbors to join in the festive fun—and they certainly did.

Best Indoor Decor: Joanne King
Joanne transformed her home into a holiday wonderland while hosting a festive soirée. Every room was thoughtfully decorated, and while not fully captured in photos, her home was wrapped in lights outside as part of a cherished annual tradition.

Best Overall Decor: Joyce Dove Woodside
Joyce’s display stood out not only for its beauty but for the heartfelt meaning behind it. Her love of Christmas was paired with a mission to give back, encouraging those who enjoyed the light display to donate to the Lake Oconee Humane Society in memory of her beloved dog, Nobel. The display honored Nobel’s joyful spirit while supporting animals in need—a true reflection of the season of giving.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Deck the Halls contest and helped spread holiday cheer throughout Harbor Club. Your creativity, generosity, and festive spirit made this season extra merry and bright for our entire community.

Honoring Our Heroes: Veterans Day Breakfast at Harbor Club

On Saturday, November 8, the Harbor Club community came together for a very special morning, our annual Veterans Day Breakfast at The Clubhouse. From 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., residents gathered to honor and celebrate the men and women among us who have served our country with courage and dedication.

The morning began with the Veterans Recognition Program at 8:30 a.m., a heartfelt moment that reminded everyone why this event is such a cherished tradition. Stories were shared, memories exchanged, and gratitude expressed from every corner of the room.

What makes Harbor Club especially unique is that nearly 20% of our residents are veterans. This remarkable number speaks to the strength, leadership, and spirit of service that define our community. These individuals have worn our nation’s uniform and now continue to contribute to Harbor Club’s welcoming, active, and supportive atmosphere.

The breakfast wasn’t just about honoring those who served. It was also a time for connection and reflection, reminding everyone of the shared values that unite communities across the country: service, respect, and gratitude.

To all who have served, in Harbor Club and beyond, we are deeply grateful. Your commitment and courage continue to inspire us all.

Harbor Club salutes you.

Carriage Ridge Halloween Extravaganza in Harbor Club

Halloween at Harbor Club was full of energy, laughter, and plenty of candy. Members, residents, and their guests gathered in Carriage Ridge, a Harbor Club neighborhood, to celebrate as children in every kind of costume made their way from house to house. We saw superheroes, princesses, K-pop demon hunters, and even parents getting in on the fun, dressed as “6” and “7” from the latest viral meme.

The evening was a great reminder of what makes Harbor Club special: a close-knit community where neighbors come together to celebrate and create lasting memories. Watching parents and children enjoy the night side by side, sharing treats and laughter, showed just how much joy a simple neighborhood event can bring.

Thank you to all the families who helped make this year’s Halloween such a success. Whether you handed out candy, decorated your home, or joined the fun in costume, you helped make Harbor Club an even more wonderful place to live.

Harbor Club Residents Show Support During the Cast + Blast Honor Ride

On Saturday, September 13, the Harbor Club community proudly came together as one of the official cheer points for the Cast + Blast Wounded Veterans Celebration Honor Ride. The Honor Ride featured a moving parade of vehicles and motorcycles traveling from Home Depot in Greensboro to the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge in Eatonton with wounded veterans from across Georgia.

Cast + Blast is a three-day event at Lake Oconee created exclusively for wounded veterans. Hosted by Georgia Safari Club International and Glasslined Technologies, with support from the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge, the celebration combines outdoor activities with fellowship, offering a meaningful way to honor and thank those who have bravely served our nation.

Harbor Club residents lined the entrance with flags, patriotic colors, and heartfelt spirit to welcome and honor the wounded veterans passing through. It was an inspiring display of unity, gratitude, and support for those who sacrificed so much to serve our country.

The Honor Ride served as a powerful reminder of the courage and resilience of our veterans, and Harbor Club was proud to play a part in recognizing and celebrating them along the route.

A special thank-you goes out to everyone who joined in, waved their flags, and helped make Harbor Club’s cheer point such a meaningful stop for the veterans and riders.

Harbor Club Remembrance Walk Honors 9/11

On September 11, the Harbor Club community came together for a meaningful Remembrance Walk to honor the lives lost and the heroes who gave everything on that tragic day in 2001. Beginning at the Cart Barn near the Club House and ending at the Flagpole in front of the Guard Shack, residents walked 1.1 miles in unity and reflection.

Leading the walk was Harbor Club resident and local firefighter Bob Welsh, who guided participants in honoring the 2,977 lives lost and the more than 400 First Responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. As the group reached the Flagpole, the American Flag was lowered to half-mast in a powerful tribute to their memory.

Along the way, moments of remembrance echoed the timeline of September 11:

  • 8:46 am: Flight 11 strikes the North Tower
  • 9:03 am: Flight 175 impacts the South Tower
  • 9:37 am: Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon
  • 10:07 am: Flight 93 goes down in Pennsylvania

It was a solemn and moving morning at Harbor Club, filled with reflection, respect, and unity. Together, we remembered the lives lost, honored the courage of First Responders, and reaffirmed that we will never forget.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Bob Welsh for leading the walk and to everyone who participated in making this day of remembrance so meaningful for our community.

Harbor Club Ladies League Kicks Off with a Fun-Filled Meet & Greet

The Harbor Club Ladies League kicked off the season with a fantastic Meet and Greet, bringing together women from across the community. The evening was filled with laughter, warm introductions, and opportunities to connect with new and familiar faces.

Guests enjoyed complimentary appetizers, a lively atmosphere, and the chance to learn more about the League and its upcoming plans. With a cash bar and casual mingling, it was the perfect way to set the tone for another exciting year ahead.

The Harbor Club Ladies League is more than just a social club; it’s a community of women who not only enjoy fun events and activities together but also volunteer and give back in meaningful ways. Stars, Stripes, and Smiles: Harbor Club’s 4th of July Celebration Shines Bright

There’s nothing quite like celebrating the 4th of July at Harbor Club — and this year’s festivities were a true showcase of community spirit, patriotic pride, and good old-fashioned summer fun.

The weekend kicked off on Friday morning with a moving flag-raising ceremony in front of the Clubhouse, led by Greene County Sheriff Donnie Harrison and local firefighter Bob Welsh. As the American flag rose high and proud against the summer sky, residents and guests gathered in reverent silence before the day’s excitement truly began.

Not long after, the hum of engines and honking of horns signaled the start of one of Harbor Club’s most beloved traditions — the annual patriotic golf cart parade. Lined up behind the Walker Church Fire Department’s firetruck, a record number of colorfully decorated carts rolled out, festooned in red, white, and blue. Children waved flags and neighbors cheered from lawns and sidewalks, while others followed along on foot to be part of the excitement. From streamers and star-spangled banners to full-on themed displays, each cart brought its own flair to the fun.

The energy continued at the Harbor Club pool, where DJ Dean kept the crowd moving with festive tunes. The grill was fired up for burgers, hot dogs, and all the classic summer favorites. With cold drinks in hand and smiles all around, neighbors relaxed poolside and soaked in the sunshine.

This year marked the 15th annual 4th of July celebration at Harbor Club, and it was the biggest one yet. With record attendance and more carts than ever, it was a clear sign that the spirit of community is alive and thriving.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the day so special, and to Leigh Lofgren for capturing the magic through her photos. Here’s to many more celebrations and the beautiful tradition of coming together as a community to celebrate the land we love.

Even with a few surprise showers in the forecast, the rain couldn’t dampen the energy, or the smiles, around the pool as members came together to kick off summer in style.

It was the kind of afternoon that reminded us why summer at Harbor Club is so special, a full day of fun, food, and music. DJ Cayce Buttrey kept the good vibes going with an upbeat mix of summer favorites, while our culinary team fired up the grill to serve classic poolside fare, burgers, hot dogs, and more. Members gathered under umbrellas, making the most of the day with laughter, great conversation, and refreshing drinks.

Easter Fun at The Stables

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Family Easter Event at The Stables! With more than 300 children, parents, and grandparents in attendance, it was a joyful day brimming with laughter, sunshine, and seasonal celebration.

The festivities began with age-grouped egg hunts, sending eager little ones racing across the field in search of brightly colored treasures. Their delighted squeals filled the air, creating a soundtrack of pure happiness that echoed throughout the spring-kissed landscape.

Children burned off their sugar highs on the giant inflatable slide and obstacle course, while whimsical face painting and balloon art brought an extra splash of color to the day. A special shout-out to Pegz Fazio of Phantom Face Paint and her talented partner, Phil Alexander, whose incredible artistry kept smiles bright from morning to afternoon.

No Easter event is complete without sweet treats, and this one certainly delivered! Families enjoyed freshly popped popcorn, snow cones, cupcakes, and cookies—many of them served by our youngest volunteers, who enthusiastically ran the popcorn and snow-cone machines and bubble table like seasoned pros.

One of the most magical moments of the day? A visit from the Easter Bunny, of course! Children lined up for photos with their fluffy guest, thrilled to capture the memory amidst a backdrop of festive balloons. Exploring the Fascinating History of Trivia & Harbor Club’s Monthly Trivia Nights

Trivia, derived from the Latin word “trivium,” meaning “three roads,” has traversed a remarkable journey throughout history. From its humble origins to becoming a beloved pastime, trivia has captivated minds and brought people together in pursuit of knowledge and fun. At Harbor Club, a prestigious gated community nestled along Lake Oconee, the tradition of trivia lives on, proving to be wildly popular among members with its monthly trivia nights held at the clubhouse.

Tracing back to ancient times, trivia finds its roots in the gatherings of scholars and thinkers in the great civilizations of Greece and Rome. These individuals engaged in intellectual exchanges, testing each other’s knowledge on a wide array of subjects ranging from philosophy to literature.

The modern concept of trivia emerged in the early 20th century, primarily as a parlor game. However, it wasn’t until the late 20th century that trivia truly gained momentum, thanks partly to the rise of television game shows like “Jeopardy!” and “Trivial Pursuit,” which became cultural phenomena, igniting a widespread fascination with random facts and obscure knowledge.

One of the perks of being a member of the Harbor Club is the ongoing special events, such as monthly gatherings at the clubhouse, to partake in an evening of camaraderie. Since 2015, trivia nights at The Clubhouse with Paige, the host, have become a cherished tradition, fostering a sense of community and friendly competition among participants.

What sets Harbor Club’s trivia nights apart is the meticulous attention to detail in curating diverse themes for each gathering. From music to food and drinks, every trivia night offers a unique journey of knowledge. Whether participants are literature, music, science, or sports enthusiasts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and explore.

Harbor Club extends membership opportunities to its residents and non-residents who seek to immerse themselves in the vibrant social scene and exclusive events at The Clubhouse. Membership grants individuals access to many amenities and activities, including the highly anticipated trivia nights.

For residents, membership offers a seamless integration into the community, providing opportunities to forge meaningful connections with neighbors and partake in various social events.
