Member Spotlight: Steve & Linda Kernan

At Harbor Club, our community is defined by the people who bring it to life. From friendly neighbors and shared experiences to the connections formed on the golf course, at The Clubhouse, and throughout the neighborhood, it’s the members and residents who make Harbor Club feel like home. Through our Member Spotlight, we’re proud to share the voices and stories of members who make Harbor Club such a special place to live.

This month, we’re excited to feature Steve and Linda Kernan, who shared their Harbor Club experience in their own words:

“We moved to Harbor Club at the end of July in 2025 from Lexington, South Carolina. Harbor Club seemed to be more of a community than a resort, and everyone was so nice. We felt Harbor Club could truly feel like home. Harbor Club offers something for everyone. There’s always something going on to get involved in. We love having a great golf course to play, the people have been very welcoming, but best of all is it puts us closer to our children and grands!”

Steve and Linda’s words perfectly capture what so many members experience at Harbor Club: a welcoming atmosphere, plenty of opportunities to get involved, and a place that truly feels like home. We’re so grateful to have them as part of the Harbor Club family. If you see them around the community, be sure to say hello.

Breakfast with Santa Brings Holiday Cheer to Harbor Club

Harbor Club was filled with holiday magic during our annual Breakfast with Santa event, held on December 6 and 7 at The Clubhouse for members and their families. Families gathered for a festive morning that celebrated togetherness, tradition, and the joy of the season!

Guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet while spending quality time with family and friends, soaking in the cheerful atmosphere and holiday spirit. The highlight of the morning, of course, was a special visit from Santa himself. Children had the chance to meet Santa, share their Christmas wishes, and capture the moment with a photo they’ll treasure for years to come. Holiday Spirit Shines Bright at Harbor Club on Lake Oconee

The holiday season truly shone at Harbor Club with our Deck the Halls Christmas Decorating Contest. Residents were invited to showcase their festive spirit by decorating their homes, docks, and outdoor spaces, and the response was nothing short of magical.

From cozy indoor decor and glowing Christmas trees to beautifully lit exteriors and eye-catching displays, the creativity throughout the community was inspiring. Every entry, big or small, classic or whimsical, helped make Harbor Club sparkle brighter than ever this season.

Residents competed in three festive categories:

  • Best Indoor Decor
  • Best Outdoor Decor
  • Best Overall Decor

Winners in each category received a gift certificate to The Clubhouse at Harbor Club and were recognized on social media and in the weekly Harbor Club newsletter.

After much admiration (and some very tough decisions), we were thrilled to announce our winners on December 22:

Best Outdoor Decor: Ryan Gibadlo
Inspired by his family’s love of the holidays, Ryan shared that when they moved to Harbor Club in 2019, not many homes decorated for Christmas. With encouragement from his five-year-old at the time, their “big decorations” were meant to inspire neighbors to join in the festive fun—and they certainly did.

Best Indoor Decor: Joanne King
Joanne transformed her home into a holiday wonderland while hosting a festive soirée. Every room was thoughtfully decorated, and while not fully captured in photos, her home was wrapped in lights outside as part of a cherished annual tradition.

Best Overall Decor: Joyce Dove Woodside
Joyce’s display stood out not only for its beauty but for the heartfelt meaning behind it. Her love of Christmas was paired with a mission to give back, encouraging those who enjoyed the light display to donate to the Lake Oconee Humane Society in memory of her beloved dog, Nobel. The display honored Nobel’s joyful spirit while supporting animals in need—a true reflection of the season of giving.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Deck the Halls contest and helped spread holiday cheer throughout Harbor Club. Your creativity, generosity, and festive spirit made this season extra merry and bright for our entire community.

Member Spotlight: Meet Jack & Julie Latham

At Harbor Club, the heart of our community has always been the people who call it home. Every friendly wave, every gathering, every shared moment on the lake or the golf course adds to the welcoming spirit that makes this place so special. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Member Spotlight! Where we highlight the individuals and families who make Harbor Club such a vibrant and connected community.

To kick things off, we’re thrilled to feature Jack and Julie Latham, a couple who embraced Harbor Club from the moment they arrived. Their story reflects the magic of finding not just a home, but a lifestyle and a community that immediately feels like family.

Enjoy getting to know them through their own words:

How long have you lived at Harbor Club?
“Six months—we closed at the end of May.”

What separates Harbor Club from other communities and made it the right place for you to call home?
“The amazing people. We have found a friend group we really connected with quickly. This is representative of the entire community.”

How would you describe what life is like at Harbor Club to someone who hasn’t been here before?
“We live at a resort. We feel super fortunate. You don’t have to leave the community to do everything. You can boat, golf, hike, go for a drink at the club, work out, and connect with friends without ever leaving the development.”

What’s your favorite thing about living at Harbor Club?
“Julie and I identified Harbor Club from our first tour with Kathy. We toured it, knew it was where we wanted to spend the next phase of our life, and decided we wanted to move forward that day. We got married here at the pavilion with our closest family and friends in June. This community holds a special place for Julie and I and always will, as we plan to spend the next 30+ years here!”

Jack and Julie’s story is a perfect reminder of what makes Harbor Club more than just a place to live. It is a place to build connections, celebrate milestones, and enjoy a lifestyle that makes every day feel a little more special.

We are grateful to have them as part of the Harbor Club family, and we look forward to sharing more Member Spotlights in the months ahead. If you see the Lathams around the community, whether on the lake, at the club, or out for a walk, be sure to say hello!

Harbor Club Residents Show Support During the Cast + Blast Honor Ride

On Saturday, September 13, the Harbor Club community proudly came together as one of the official cheer points for the Cast + Blast Wounded Veterans Celebration Honor Ride. The Honor Ride featured a moving parade of vehicles and motorcycles traveling from Home Depot in Greensboro to the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge in Eatonton with wounded veterans from across Georgia.

Cast + Blast is a three-day event at Lake Oconee created exclusively for wounded veterans. Hosted by Georgia Safari Club International and Glasslined Technologies, with support from the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge, the celebration combines outdoor activities with fellowship, offering a meaningful way to honor and thank those who have bravely served our nation.

Harbor Club residents lined the entrance with flags, patriotic colors, and heartfelt spirit to welcome and honor the wounded veterans passing through. It was an inspiring display of unity, gratitude, and support for those who sacrificed so much to serve our country.

The Honor Ride served as a powerful reminder of the courage and resilience of our veterans, and Harbor Club was proud to play a part in recognizing and celebrating them along the route.

A special thank-you goes out to everyone who joined in, waved their flags, and helped make Harbor Club’s cheer point such a meaningful stop for the veterans and riders.

Harbor Club Remembrance Walk Honors 9/11

On September 11, the Harbor Club community came together for a meaningful Remembrance Walk to honor the lives lost and the heroes who gave everything on that tragic day in 2001. Beginning at the Cart Barn near the Club House and ending at the Flagpole in front of the Guard Shack, residents walked 1.1 miles in unity and reflection.

Leading the walk was Harbor Club resident and local firefighter Bob Welsh, who guided participants in honoring the 2,977 lives lost and the more than 400 First Responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. As the group reached the Flagpole, the American Flag was lowered to half-mast in a powerful tribute to their memory.

Along the way, moments of remembrance echoed the timeline of September 11:

  • 8:46 am: Flight 11 strikes the North Tower
  • 9:03 am: Flight 175 impacts the South Tower
  • 9:37 am: Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon
  • 10:07 am: Flight 93 goes down in Pennsylvania

It was a solemn and moving morning at Harbor Club, filled with reflection, respect, and unity. Together, we remembered the lives lost, honored the courage of First Responders, and reaffirmed that we will never forget.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Bob Welsh for leading the walk and to everyone who participated in making this day of remembrance so meaningful for our community.

Harbor Club Ladies League Kicks Off with a Fun-Filled Meet & Greet

The Harbor Club Ladies League kicked off the season with a fantastic Meet and Greet, bringing together women from across the community. The evening was filled with laughter, warm introductions, and opportunities to connect with new and familiar faces.

Guests enjoyed complimentary appetizers, a lively atmosphere, and the chance to learn more about the League and its upcoming plans. With a cash bar and casual mingling, it was the perfect way to set the tone for another exciting year ahead.

The Harbor Club Ladies League is more than just a social club; it’s a community of women who not only enjoy fun events and activities together but also volunteer and give back in meaningful ways. Whether you’re new to Harbor Club or have been here for years, the League offers a welcoming space to connect, contribute, and grow friendships.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this Meet & Greet such a success. We’re looking forward to a year full of friendship, fun, and positive impact in our community.

Harbor Club at Lake Oconee A Luxury Southern Charm Getaway

A Lifestyle Built Around Golf and Lake Life

Harbor Club, on the shores of Georgia’s second-largest lake, Lake Oconee has grown into more than just a golf community. With its championship course, newly reimagined recreation campus, award-winning marina, and family-owned legacy, Harbor Club has become a destination where lake living, sport and southern charm all come together.

A Champion Golf Course with Character

Harbor Club’s 18-hole course, designed in 1991 by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, is consistently ranked among Georgia’s best. Routed through wooded hillsides and along Lake Oconee, it touches the water six times and offers both variety and pace of play. Signature holes include two drivable par-fours, most notably the 7th, and a par-three on the 17th hole that was inspired by Augusta National’s 12th. Although Harbor Club is a 1,000-acre, private gated community, the golf course is open daily to limited outside play. The course is particularly popular in April with golfers traveling to and from the Masters Tournament in Augusta, just an hour east of Greensboro. With rare bent grass greens and pristine conditioning, Harbor Club continues to earn top tier recognition.

The Boathouse: Lake Living at Its Best

The Boathouse Marina, winner of the Aurora Award for Best Recreational Facility in the Southeast, is central to Harbor Club’s lake lifestyle. The marina offers year-round launching, fueling, and off-season storage, while summer brings live music, dining, and gatherings on the Grand Lawn. Located on Lake Oconee’s clear Richland Creek, it’s just a short boat ride from the Ritz-Carlton Lodge.

The Grove

The Grove, Harbor Club’s new 2-acre amenity campus, offers a 2,000-square-foot fitness center, yoga studio, hiking trail with fitness stations and Sanctuary Pond for fishing and relaxation. A sports field and renovated grandstand host concerts and events, while The Stables, once an equestrian barn, has been transformed into a premier wedding venue with a cedar outdoor chapel. “The Grove provides residents and members with a vibrant amenity and the perfect complement to our golf course, marina, clubhouse, and swim and tennis center,” says GM Brandon Matney.

Luxury Dining on the Course

Harbor Club’s hilltop clubhouse restaurant overlooks the golf course and croquet lawn, serving lunch, dinner, and a beloved Sunday brunch. Signature cocktails like the Cadillac Peachrita and Tee-Off Transfusion have made the bar a favorite among locals and guests alike.

Where Golf, Lake and Lifestyle Meet

Just an hour east of Atlanta, Harbor Club offers a rare mix of recreation and community. Whether you’re chasing birdies on the 7th hole, attending a wedding at The Stables, storing your boat at The Boathouse, or enjoying brunch with a lake view, Harbor Club delivers a lifestyle rooted in both tradition and innovation.

Harbor Club Is… Home.

At Harbor Club, we believe our community is more than just a neighborhood. It’s a feeling, a lifestyle, and a collection of special moments that bring people together. That’s why we launched “Harbor Club Is…” by asking residents and members to share what Harbor Club means to them.

One of the first families to share was Brian Volz and his wife Taylor. As new parents, Harbor Club holds an especially meaningful place in their lives.

Brian shared:

“Harbor Club is Home. It’s where we brought our little girl home from the hospital, it’s where she will play, where she will grow up. This neighborhood is her home but more importantly, the people of Harbor Club are her extended family. We love it here and can’t imagine being anywhere else.

The first picture is outside our front door before her first family golf outing. The second is our family picture at her first Easter. The third is her and I enjoying some much needed lake time. The fourth is a picture of my wife Taylor and our baby girl on a family walk with the dog through the neighborhood. And the 5th is us enjoying a walk through 9 holes on the best golf course on the lake.”

Stories like this remind us of what makes Harbor Club truly special. Every sunset on the lake, every round of golf, every quiet morning on the porch becomes part of the bigger story of our community.

Now, we’d love to hear from you. What does Harbor Club mean to you? Share your photos, stories, and favorite moments with us for a chance to be featured on our website, social media, and newsletters.

Together, let’s celebrate the heart of Harbor Club.

Harbor Club: The “Slow & Steady” Star of Lake Oconee’s Real Estate Market
At Harbor Club, success isn’t a trend—it’s a track record. This 1,100-acre gated community on Lake Oconee’s north shore continues to shine with steady home appreciation, strong sales, and a lifestyle that blends relaxed luxury with long-term value.
With nine miles of lake frontage, resort-style amenities, and a championship golf course,
Harbor Club has become one of the area’s most rewarding investments. Since 2021, average home prices around the lake have climbed more than 20%, but Harbor Club’s growth has been stable, consistent, and resilient.
Recent real estate performance says it all:

In a market defined by demand and limited supply, Harbor Club continues to deliver something rare: confidence…

Thinking About Selling Solo? Here’s What FSBO Won’t Tell You – But A Pro Will!

We get it—selling your home on your own may seem like a way to save money. But in reality, FSBO (For Sale by Owner) listings often face challenges that can delay or reduce your final sale price. Some common pitfalls include:
• Overpricing or underpricing: Without current market data, it’s easy to miss the mark. Overpricing can scare away buyers, while underpricing leaves money on the table.
• Limited exposure: FSBO homes aren’t listed on the MLS or shared across Realtor networks, which drastically reduces visibility and buyer interest.
• Unpolished presentation: Professional staging and photography can make a major difference. FSBO listings often lack that polished look that helps homes stand out.
• Legal and paperwork errors: Real estate transactions involve contracts, disclosures, inspections, and deadlines. A single mistake can derail the deal.
• Tough negotiations: Without an experienced advocate, sellers may struggle to handle offers, repairs, or price concessions confidently.

July Gardening in Georgia: What’s Blooming & What to Plant for Fall

Summer in Georgia brings long, sun-drenched days—and if you’ve spent any time outdoors in Georgia’s Lake Country lately, you’ve likely noticed the bursts of color, fragrance, and life blooming in gardens across the community. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just looking to add curb appeal to your home, July is a pivotal time in the community garden or at home in your own yard. Here’s what’s flourishing now and what you can plant to ensure a gorgeous and productive garden come fall.

What’s Blooming in Georgia Gardens Right Now

July is peak bloom season in the South. Here’s what you’ll see thriving around Lake Oconee:

  1. Crepe Myrtles
A Southern staple, these vibrant trees explode in shades of pink, purple, red, and white this time of year. They’re heat-tolerant, low-maintenance, and add height and drama to any landscape.
  2. Coneflowers (Echinacea)
These pollinator-friendly perennials are not only beautiful but also tough. They thrive in Georgia heat and attract butterflies and bees alike.
  3. Black-Eyed Susans
Bright and cheerful, these yellow-petaled flowers are resilient in hot, dry weather and bloom throughout the summer.
  4. Zinnias & Marigolds
These colorful annuals love the heat and bloom in bold shades all season long, making them ideal for flower beds or container gardens.
  5. Gardenias & Hydrangeas
Gardenias offer their iconic fragrance, while hydrangeas continue to impress with their large, lush blooms, especially in shaded spots.

What to Plant Now for a Beautiful Fall Garden

Even though it’s hot outside, now is the perfect time to start planning and planting for fall. With the right choices, your yard or section in the community garden can stay colorful and vibrant well into October and November.

  1. Fall Annuals to Start from Seed or Transplant in August
  • Pansies & Violas – Add cool-season color; start seeds indoors in July for planting in late August.
  • Snapdragons – Tall and colorful, they add height to fall beds and love cooler temps.
  • Ornamental Kale & Cabbage – Perfect for texture and color in fall planters and beds.
  1. Vegetables to Plant in Late July & August
  • Collards, Kale, Mustard Greens – Thrive in the cooler temps of late summer into fall.
  • Beets & Carrots – Sow seeds now for a fall harvest.
  • Lettuce & Spinach – Quick growers that can be succession planted into September.
  1. Perennials & Shrubs to Install Now
July is also a great time to plant native perennials or add structural shrubs like:
  • Russian Sage
  • Coreopsis
  • Boxwood or Dwarf Holly
Just be sure to water well as they establish in the summer heat.

Gardening Tips for Lake Oconee’s Climate

  • Water wisely: Water early in the morning, deeply and less frequently, to encourage strong root growth.
  • Mulch generously: Mulch not only keeps weeds at bay but also helps retain moisture during the hottest months.
  • Watch for pests: Heat and humidity can invite insects—inspect leaves regularly and use natural deterrents when possible.
  • Feed summer bloomers: A mid-season fertilizer boost can prolong blooms on annuals and flowering perennials.

Bringing Beauty to Your Backyard (and Beyond)

Whether you’re maintaining a full landscape, keeping a few container gardens on the porch, or getting your hands dirty in the Community Garden at The Grove, July is a rewarding time to get your hands in the dirt. Here at Harbor Club, the beauty of the lake is only enhanced by the vibrant gardens that surround it. With a little planning now, you can keep your landscape blooming well into fall—and enjoy the Southern outdoor lifestyle all season long.

Pickleball Fun & Fundamentals: A Morning of Learning and Laughter at Harbor Club

On June 10th, the Harbor Club Pickleball Club brought together players of all skill levels for an engaging in-house clinic, and it was a smash hit! With 19 enthusiastic participants, plus expert instruction from Bill Lewis and support from three outstanding helpers, the event was full of energy, fun, and fantastic instruction.

Bill led the clinic with his signature mix of skill, patience, and good humor, creating a welcoming environment where everyone could learn something new. Whether attendees were beginners or seasoned players, the clinic offered valuable takeaways for all.

Throughout the morning, the courts were alive with the sound of pickleballs in play and the laughter of neighbors learning together. Bill’s unique ability to break down the fundamentals in a way that makes sense to everyone was on full display—and it’s clear we’re lucky to have such talent right here in our community.

Memorial Day Pool Party: Kicking Off Summer at Harbor Club

Memorial Day at Harbor Club is always a special occasion, and this year’s Member Pool Party was the perfect mix of fun, food, and heartfelt meaning. Even with a few surprise showers in the forecast, the rain couldn’t dampen the energy, or the smiles, around the pool as members came together to kick off summer in style.

It was the kind of afternoon that reminded us why summer at Harbor Club is so special, a full day of fun, food, and music. DJ Cayce Buttrey kept the good vibes going with an upbeat mix of summer favorites, while our culinary team fired up the grill to serve classic poolside fare, burgers, hot dogs, and more. Members gathered under umbrellas, making the most of the day with laughter, great conversation, and refreshing drinks.

But beyond the food and festivities, the heart of the event was a shared moment of reflection. We paused together to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day, remembering the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is never forgotten, and it was meaningful to come together as a community to pay tribute.

We’re grateful for everyone who joined us, rain or shine, and helped us kick off the summer season in true Harbor Club style. Thank you for your continued support, enthusiasm, and flexibility as our community grows and evolves, we couldn’t do it without you. Here’s to a summer filled with sunshine, connection, and more unforgettable moments at Harbor Club!

The Harbor Club Ladies League closed out another wonderful year with a night to remember! Their annual End of Year Party, held at the picturesque Stables at Harbor Club, brought members together for an evening full of laughter, connection, and celebration.

From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere buzzed with energy. Friends caught up over drinks, shared stories from the past year, and enjoyed a delicious meal together. As the evening went on, the lively sounds of Reckless Abandon filled the air, getting everyone on their feet for a night of dancing and fun. It was the perfect sendoff to another fantastic season of community, camaraderie, and service.

The Ladies League has always been about more than just social events, though they do know how to throw a great party. Since its founding in 1996, this group of dynamic women has created a lasting impact at Harbor Club. What started as a simple gathering of neighbors has grown into a vibrant organization known for monthly educational luncheons, group outings, charitable support, and strong friendships.

From its early days, when Helen Orler, Jean Chestnut, Martha Sisterhen, Pat Frain, and Margy DeGeorge first dreamed up the idea, to today, the Harbor Club Ladies League remains a vibrant part of life at Harbor Club.
